PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

 

Watershed Coordinator

Alliance for Aquatic Resources Monitoring (ALLARM), Dickinson College, Carlisle PA (Fall 2014 – Spring 2017)

  • Create and deliver presentations on Chesapeake Bay policy, water quality parameters in the Chesapeake Bay, water quality monitoring related to Marcellus shale gas impacts and other water quality issues

  • Provide technical (stream monitoring) assistance to community-based watershed organizations

  • Analyze water samples for quality assurance verification to ensure that volunteers are using their equipment correctly and collecting credible data

  • Conduct monthly chemical and physical water quality monitoring of a local stream

  • Train volunteer monitors to collect and analyze stream health data in New York and Pennsylvania

  • Conduct research and publish on hydro-geochemistry of shale flowback water in the hydrofracking process

  • Network with peers employed in related fields of study and represent ALLARM at professional conferences

  • Engage with community groups and educators to plan and implement education events about water quality

  • Plan and lead weekly staff meetings of 19 students and professional staff

  • Write articles for annual organizational publication

  • Develop educational and training materials for workshops and community meetings

Restoring the Environment and Developing Youth (READY) Program, Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and Howard County, MD (Summer 2014)

  • Built rain gardens and constructed various storm water BMPs in residential and commercial zones of the county with extensive impermeable surface area                                                                                                                                   

  • Trained in local storm water legislation, sustainable water usage, and control efforts to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay

  • Worked in a team to problem solve, make decisions quickly, and improvise if necessary during construction

Alpha Phi Omega, Dickinson College, Carlisle PA (Spring 2014 – Spring 2017)       

  • National community service fraternity: 20+ hours community service per semester volunteering in the local community:

  • Salvation Army Stuart House, Soup Kitchen, Project SHARE, Farmers on the Square, Furry Friends, Dickinson College Farm, Kings Gap State Park, America Reads etc. 

  • Plan, fundraise and implement a half-day service event for the Carlisle YWCA

  • Engage with service partners and local organizations, park maintenance, food service, child care, animal care
